Randwick relegated Sydney University to fifth place on the Shute Shield ladder with a 42-24 result in their Round 10 clash at Sydney University Football Ground on Saturday.

Operating on the back of a dominant pack at scrum time, the Wicks opened up  a 28-nil lead in the first 30 minutes with tries to Brooklyn Hardaker, Triston Reilly and Christian Poidevin.

Sydney University No.8 Rohan Regan returned from a stint in the sin-bin to score for the Students just before the break, but Randwick began the second half as they had the first, with back-to-back tries to seal the deal.

Gordon head the NSW Premier Rugby ladder after 10 rounds on 40 points, with Northern Suburbs (39), Eastwood (37), Randwick (35), Sydney University (33), Randwick (30) and Eastern Suburbs (31) making up the top six. Gordon, Norths, Sydney University and Easts each have a game up their sleeve.

The Students opened the shortened 2020 competition with a four-game winning streak – a 36-26 result over  Warringah, 10-6 over Manly, 59-10 over Newcastle and 41-3 over Penrith – before they hit a slump.

Southern Districts posted a 32-21 result at SU Football Ground and Eastwood toughed out a 24-14 win at T.G. Millner.

The Students regrouped after a bye to post a 50-29 result over West Harbour, before Easts recorded a 22-14 result at Woollahra Oval.

Sydney University, the Shute Shield holders for the past two season, will meet Gordon and Northern Suburbs in the next two rounds before closing out the season proper against Parramatta Two Blues and Penrith. The elimination finals begin on 17 October.
