Mark Prater of the Sydney University Boat Club (SUBC) has been appointed Olympic Underpinning coach for crews based in Canberra before they head overseas.

The announcement from Rowing Australia of Prater’s inclusion in its coaching team for the 2016 season comes off the back of a strong record of results.

Most recently, Prater coached SUBC’s Nick Wheatley and Jack Hargreaves in the Men’s Pair with the crew winning silver at the 2015 U23 World Rowing Championships while also making the A-Final of the World Rowing Championships and qualifying the boat for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Prater will coach out of the Reinhold Batschi National Training Centre (RBNTC) in Canberra from 23 February to 17 May. After this domestic stint, Prater will travel to Europe for World Cup regattas ahead of Rio racing.

The final crew selections should be announced at the close of this week or early next, after which SUSF can hopefully share with you more SUBC success.
