Sydney University’s Australian Football Club is celebrating after winning the Division Four and Under 18 Challenge Cup Grand Finals at Blacktown Olympic Park on Sunday.
The Division Four side ran out 46-point winners over UNSW-Eastern Suburbs, while the Under 18s overwhelmed Southern Power by 93 points.
Scores in the Division Four Grand Final were level at quarter time, but an eight-goal second quarter gave the Students the momentum to run out 16.6 (102) to 8.8 (56) winners.
Dominic Tilden was best on ground with five goals. He was well supported by William Punch and Brent Pollock, while Chris Perkins was also strong up forward kicking five goals.
The Bulldogs were well served by George Pallett, Jeremy Osborne and Ben Currie.
Sydney University dominated the inaugural Challenge Cup, posting big scores over all teams during the season proper and the Grand Final was no exception.
Although Southern Power kicked the first goal, the Students soon took control to run out 16.14 (110) to 2.5 (17) winners.
Sydney University midfielder Todd Considine was awarded the best on ground medal.
Considine received good support from Stephen Michaels and Monty Krochmal with Tom Aitken the leading goalkicker with four goals.
The Power had strong contributors in Luke Jansson, Jared Brown and Rhys Vance tried hard all day.
Sydney University bowed out of the Division One competition when they lost their preliminary final 11.11 (77) to 9.8 (62) to East Coast Eagles.
