Olympic gold medallist and SUSF Elite Athlete Program member, Matthew Mitcham, has announced his retirement from diving.

Commencing a Bachelor of Arts & Sciences in 2009, Mitcham has been a wonderful ambassador for the program. During this time he has been in and out of the program due to his sporting commitments, which saw him win the 10m platform at the 2008 Beijing Games with the highest-scoring single dive in Olympic history.

Reaching world number one in 2010, as well as taking gold in the 10m synchro platform at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Mitcham has achieved everything he has hoped for and now intends to pursue his media and entertainment career.

SUSF Elite Athlete Program Coordinator said, “Mitcham is an amazing athlete, great person and is always happy to give his time.”

The whole of SUSF wish Matthew the very best in his future endeavours and feel proud to have played a small part in supporting him through his journey up until now.
