The Sydney University Women’s Water Polo Club (SUWWC) today officially unveiled three guest players for the 2013 National Water Polo League (NWPL) season that kicks off this weekend.

Whitney Delado, Daisy Carrillo and Diana Romero all come to the Lion’s team via Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles – coincidently also nicknamed ‘The Lions’.

Delado is a two-time NCAA All-American, whilst Carillo and Romero have both earned All-American honours and have played international water polo with the Mexican national team at the World University Games and Pan American Games.

Lion’s Coach Ian Trent is excited by the addition of his guest players.

“All three girls have already made an impact at training and they will certainly enhance our team for the upcoming season, especially with Australian representatives Hannah Buckling and Alicia Brightwell studying in the US,” explained Trent.

All three girls plan to study at Sydney Uni.

Meantime, Lions National League team members Tahlia Bogg, Bec Curtis, Emma Lewis and Bronte Halligan have all performed admirably for NSW at the National U20 State Championships in Sydney. The New South Wales Blues made it a winning double for their state after defeating the previously undefeated Queensland 8-3 in the women’s gold medal final last week.

After a well-earned couple of days off the foursome re-joined the Sydney Uni squad as it prepares for the start of NWPL on Saturday February 2 against Balmain at Dawn Fraser Baths at 6.00pm. Game two is against defending National League champions Cronulla at Sutherland Aquatic Centre on Sunday at 1.30pm.

Sydney Unis men’s team also have two games this weekend – the first of which is against Balmain at 7.30pm on Saturday, before taking on Cronulla at 12pm on Sunday.
