The Sydney Uni women’s water polo Lions have swept the visiting Adelaide Jets in the two-game weekend National Water Polo League (NWPL) series at the Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Centre (SUSAC).

The Lions opened the series with an 11-6 win on Friday night. They held a 6-3 lead at halftime and came home in a canter, with co-captain Keesja Gofers scoring three goals, Isobel Bishop, Sarah Harris and American guest player Jillian Kraus two each and young guns Bronte Halligan and Kristy Donkin one each.

The Lions then played with even more assurance in the second encounter on Saturday night, taking an 8-2 halftime lead before finishing with a 14-7 victory.

Gofers and Kraus each scored a treble, Harris, Bishop and Emily Scott score two apiece with Halligan and Gabby Wikman chipping in with a goal each.

Kraus is guesting for six games with the Lions before returning to California to continue her studies and resume training with the US national team. After arriving on Friday morning, she showed her quality with five goals over the weekend as well as some assured attacking and defensive work.

The Lions record now stands at 8-2, with their next assignment against old rivals Balmain on Thursday at SUSAC at 7pm.
