Sydney Uni Lions stars Hannah Buckling, Keesja Gofers and Lea Barta have been named in the Australian Women’s Water Polo team to contest the 2013 FINA Women’s World League finals in Beijing, China.

Buckling, who has just returned home after starring in USC’s title victory in the NCAA Championships in the USA, joins National League MVP Gofers (SUSF Elite Athlete Program scholarship holder) and outstanding goalkeeper Lea Barta as Sydney Uni representatives in the Stingers line-up.

Buckling was in outstanding form throughout the US College season winning MVP in the MPSF (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) and also scoring four goals in the NCAA overtime gold medal match against Stanford.

Gofers and Barta played for the Stingers in the World League qualifiers in Auckland last month and their good form has led to selection amidst a talented group of aspirants. The Stingers team will train at a camp in Canberra before heading to Beijing, China for the tournament which begins on June 1st.

Meanwhile, two youngsters from the Sydney Uni National League squad have been selected in the Australian Born ’96 Squad for a European tour to the Netherlands, Germany, Greece and Hungary for a series of training camps with the best young players of their age.

Bronte Halligan and left-hander Kristy Donkin have been named after an exacting series of camps and the U18 nationals. The tour gets underway with a seven day common training with the Netherlands from August 6-12.
