The Lions continued their winning ways at home, taking down the Central Coast Sharks 56-20 on Saturday at the Square, Sydney Uni.

Running back Alex Watson had another strong game with 186 yards and 4 touchdowns from only 19 carries behind the impressive blocking up front of Tsuyoshi Kittaka, Marco Miranda Paez, James Gifford, Chris Peel, Fady Aoun and Elliot Mills-Connolly. The line also held off the Sharks’ pass rush to allow quarterback Kiernan Dorney to complete 14 of 19 pass attempts for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns, with Dorney looking to receiver Sam Darcy as his main weapon through the air, connecting with Darcy on 5 receptions for 117 yards.

However, the highlights of the game were provided by Lions’ stalwart Anthony Sinton, who rolled back the years to hold a tough contested catch over the middle for a touchdown on the last play of the half and then opened the second half with a 65 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Sinton’s kick-off return for a touchdown means that he now has sole possession of the club career record for kick-off returns for touchdown (3 TDs) and extends his career record for return touchdowns (punt + kick-off) to 7 touchdowns. The only difference with this latest version was that his receding pace line meant that he had the satisfaction of stepping and bumping off still more hapless defenders on his way to the end zone.

The Lions will play their homecoming game against the Bondi Raiders this Saturday at the Square, Sydney Uni, kick-off at 7pm where there will be a BBQ and other festivities for the last game of the year.
