The Lions returned home to Marrickville’s coliseum, Henson Park, where the Beavers had to be put out of their misery with 20 minutes to play. This might have been the most complete game the Lions put on the park this season in time for a big game against competition leaders UTS next week.

It was an all-round team effort this week with several players scoring tries. With most players returning from injury and representative this week the side was at close to full strength and it showed.

International Papua New Guinean, Odyssey Laderas kept the Beavers on the backfoot out of dummy half. The diminutive “Odes” was constantly jumping out of dummy half, throwing balls inside and out while both the PNG rep and fullback Dan “Rowey” Rowe supported a flurry of offloads and fast breaks in the Beavers pack. This Blitzkrieg in the middle created line breaks and quick play-the-balls that laid a wide open platform for the edge to feast on.

Both second rowers – Captain Myles Fowler and Elite Athlete Scholar Marcus Pappas – scored tries off seamless line-running. Pappas and Chadwick Scholar, Jake Vrahnos, had a field day on the left edge as the pair combined for several line breaks. Pappas scored a double while Vrahnos bagged one as each took on the line at pace.

A big congratulations to Sydney University Bachelor of Science student, Sean Bell, who debuted this week and also bagged a try of his own! All the boys were ecstatic for Sean’s debut try, instantly swarming him with praise.

The boys voted Aristoteli “Teli” Taktikos Man of the Match this week. Teli has been a staple in the middle who leads by example in both attack and particularly defense. One of the best at controlling the ruck, Teli has certainly earnt the respect of his peers and has been closely deserving of the honour on many occasions.

It was “happy days” all round with the Coach Srama happy to see the boys hold the Beavers to nil. Next up, the Sydney University Lions face rivals UTS at Macquarie University Oval. Head over to the grounds for a defining match at 3pm,  Saturday 29th of July.
