The Sydney Uni women’s water polo Lions made it four wins from their first four National Water Polo League (NWPL) games following a comfortable 11-6 victory over the Drummoyne Devils at the Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Centre (SUSAC) on Saturday.

Playing without four regulars who were missing due to injury, the Lions played controlled water polo to lead 3-0 at the first break, before continuing in the same vein to dominate proceedings 9-3 at three quarter time.

Fatigue set in the final period, but by then the result had been secured.

Gi Clark turned in another good performance scoring three goals, with Keesja Gofers also netting three majors and Sarah Harris two. Isobel Bishop, Emma Lewis and 17 year old Kristy Donkin (her first NWPL goal) all scored one goal. Once again Lea Yanitsas was strong in goals.

The win gives the Lions significant confidence going into this week’s tough western road trip to Perth. On Thursday and Saturday they meet the powerful Fremantle Marlins, whilst the UWA Torpedoes are the opposition on Friday and Sunday.
