Brydens Sydney Uni Flames’ Lauren King has announced her retirement from the WNBL after 13 successful years in the league.

King, who made her WNBL debut in 2001 with the AIS, has spent the last three seasons playing with the Brydens Sydney Uni Flames.

King has been a supporter of the Flames since she was a teenager playing junior basketball in Ballina, Northern NSW. “I always watched and supported the Flames in my lounge room when I was growing up.” explains King.

“I want to thank the club for everything they have given me over the last three seasons. It has been an amazing experience.” says King. “Although I will definitely miss playing, it has been a great ride and I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life. I am excited for what the future holds.”

Kingi, as she’s affectionately known by the team, was a much loved leader of the group, on and off the court. A versatile player, great three point shooter with an ability to defend players twice her size, King played a major role within the team.

Brydens Sydney Uni Flames General Manager, Karen Dalton, is sad to see her leave. “The loss of Kingi is huge for the Flames program” says Dalton. “Not only have we lost a great player, but a quality person as well.”

Lauren was married in April to her long time partner Kris. She is looking to relocate to Lennox Head to spend more time with her family and to focus on her teaching career.

King was a valued member of the squad and she will be sorely missed by the team and the entire Brydens Sydney Uni Flames family.
