Graham Croker
Sydney University Football Club has appointed New Zealander Bevan Cadwallader as Director of Rugby to replace Damien Hill, who has taken up assistant coaching duties with the new Melbourne Super 14 franchise.
Cadwallader has been coaching with the Tasman Makos Air New Zealand Cup (National Provincial Championship) side for the past four seasons.
Prior to that he coached Nelson Bays in 2002, 03, 04 and 05 in the NPC 2nd Division. They won the title in 2004 and were runners-up in 2003 and 2005. In 2006 they combined with Marlborough to form the Tasman Makos to play in the Premier Division of the NPC.
Cadwallader became involved in rugby on a full-time basis in 2000 and held a wide number of roles – all based in Nelson – as Academy manager responsible for the development of elite young players, as well as operations manager roles and also working extensively in coach development.
As a player he represented various Wairarapa Bush representative teams and as a 20-year-old moved to Nelson where he represented Nelson Bays in the NPC as a centre and fullback from 1990-98. He was a New Zealand Under 19 and Under 21 trialist and was also heavily involved in 7s, representing Nelson Bays as a player at the NZRU national tournament 1990-98 and as a coach in 2002, 03, 04 and 08.
The 2010 Shute Shield competition kicks off on April 10 with defending premiers Sydney University hosting their 2009 grand final adversaries Randwick at Sydney University No.1 Oval.
