The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames are excited to announce the re-signing of NSW junior Lauren King for the next two WNBL seasons.
King, who debuted in the WNBL back in 2001 with the AIS, has played the last two seasons with the Flames including all 24 games in season 2012/13.
The 29 year old forward was pleased to re-sign with the Flames, a club that she first supported growing up and playing junior basketball in Ballina (Northern NSW).
“I always watched and supported the Flames in my lounge room when I was a teenager,” explained King. “To be playing my third season this year with the Flames is something I’m really happy about.”
Her excitement in re-signing for the Flames is a feeling matched by Brydens Sydney Uni Flames Head Coach Karen Dalton, who pointed out that King’s versatility would once again make her a vital part of her squad.
“Lauren’s ability to play inside and outside is very important,” said Dalton. “She can shoot a three, she can operate in the post and she can defend bigger players than herself.”
“Lauren is also a good leader, a team player and she is very professional in everything that she does.”
King will take in plenty of good form into this season’s WNBL, having successfully led the Bendigo Lady Braves to this Saturday’s SEABL conference grand final againstSandringham.
In 25 games for the Lady Braves in 2013, King has racked up 30 blocks – making her the fourth best shot blocker in the league. She has also held her own in scoring (13 points per game), rebounding (7) and assists (2.2).
Following the completion of the SEABL, King and fellow Lady Braves and Flames teammate Renae Camino will link up with Dalton and the Flames, where she will get her first look at the new Brydens Stadium and show court at the Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Centre (SUSAC).
“I’m excited to play on the new show court at the Brydens Stadium, particularly the very first game,” said King, who will play her 248th WNBL game in the Flames first home game against Dandenong. “It will be a real honour.”
The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames will play their first 2013/14 WNBL home game against the Dandenong Rangers at Brydens Stadium (at the Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Centre) on Friday October 11 at 7.30pm.
