SUSF Elite Athlete Program Scholar and USYD Bachelor of Commerce student Emily Kempson placed first in the Ironman Malaysia under 25 category last weekend.

As the youngest female competitor, Kempson managed to finish in 12 hours 50 minutes over the 3.8km swim, 180km cycle and 42.2km run.

This result sees Kempson qualify for the upcoming Hawaiian Ironman World Championships for the second year in a row.

With temperatures hovering around 40 degrees, 140 people didn’t make the finish out of almost 1000 starters.

“Finishing was one of my greatest achievements. Pushing yourself on the worst days really makes you appreciate how tough this sport really is,” said Kempson who is coached by James Swadling.
