After nearly 15 years representing Australia on the international stage and more than 350 Australian Water Polo League appearances, Sydney Uni Sport’s very own Keesja Gofers has announced her retirement from International Water Polo.
A stalwart of both Sydney Uni Water Polo Club and the Ord Minnett Aussie Stingers, Gofers leaves behind an extraordinary legacy marked by dedication, resilience, and success at every level of the sport.
Since making her Stingers debut in 2010, Gofers has been a driving force in Australian Water Polo, competing at three Olympic Games (Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024), five World Championships, and earning more than 230 test caps for Australia. Known for her intelligence with the ball, leadership in the pool and relentless competitive spirit, she became a cornerstone of both her club and national teams.
Her career highlights include silver at the Paris 2024 Olympics Games and numerous national league titles with Sydney Uni – achievements that reflect not only her individual skill but also her impact on those around her. Teammates and coaches alike have long credited Gofers as a mentor and leader, someone who elevates the standards and spirit of every team she was part of.
A proud Sydney Uni athlete through and through, Gofers is now turning her focus to a new passion – teaching. She has begun a career in education, teaching Technology and Applied Science (TAS).
As she closes this chapter, Gofers leaves behind a powerful legacy as an Olympian, a club leader, and a role model who embodied Sydney Uni Sport’s values of excellence, integrity, and community. Her influence will continue to ripple through the pool for years to come.
