Matt Jaukovic, the 50m butterfly world record holder, will compete at the NSW Metropolitan Championships this weekend, at SOPAC, in what will be his last race before he heads off for the World University Games in Serbia.

An economics/law student, Jaukovic has come from relative obscurity to be the next bright hope for the Sydney University Swim Club (SUSC).

Jaukovic will lead a team of Sydney University scholarship holders including; Sam McConnell, Gordon Willis, Kate Johnson and David Wise, all hoping for podium finishes.

SUSC’s Head Coach Steve Alderman, who will be accompanying  Jaukovic to Serbia as the Australian Swim team’s Assistant Coach, hopes the training efforts of his small but strong squad have done what it takes to make their respective finals.

Sydney University will also have three junior swimmers competing in their first major championships.
