Sydney Uni Women’s Water Polo Club (SUWWPC) National League rookie Bronte Halligan has capped off her meteoric rise through the Australian junior ranks after being elevated from the Born ’96 squad straight into the Born ’93 team to compete in the World Junior Championships in Volos in Greece next month.

The 16-year-old Halligan is the daughter of former New Zealand Rugby League champion goal-kicker Darryl Halligan and applies her junior playing talents with SUWWPC feeder club Sydney Northern Beaches.

“Bronte is a centre back with great pool speed and really good instincts for the game. The experience she gains at the higher age level should be invaluable to her development,” said SUWWPC National League coach Ian Trent.

The team is coached by former Sydney University National League player Ryan Moar and has a hectic build-up prior to the World titles:

Aug 2-4: International Junior Women’s Tournament, Dunaujvaros, Hungary
Aug 5-8: Common training with Hungarian National junior team, Dunaujvaros, Hungary
Aug 9-11: Pythia Cup, Itea, Greece
Aug 11-15: Common training with Greek National junior team, Volos, Greece
Aug 19-25: FINA World Junior Championships, Volos, Greece
