Sydney University Australian National Football Club (SUANFC) is delighted to announce it has secured the services of Damien Hall as its 2012 Premier Division Coach, while Rod Carter will provide his coaching expertise to the SUANFC Colts across season 2012.

Damien will bring a wealth of football experience both as a player and coach, having started his football career as a junior at East Sydney. Damien most recently coached senior Sydney AFL Premier Division football between 2006 and 2009.

Damien will join our panel of coaches under the management of senior coach Roger Moten. In the same year the Club joins the North Eastern Australian Football League (NEAFL), Damien’s experience having played for Campbelltown in the then named ACT AFL and later with Queensland AFL sides Labrador and Broadbeach will bring great value to the Club’s coaching team as SUANFC sharpens its focus on bridging the gap between Premier Division and NEAFL football.

“We are very excited to bring an experienced Premier Division Coach into our coaching group,” said Sydney University President, Chas Wilkinson.

“Damien’s role will be vital as we look to transition development players through local U18s and Premier Division football into the NEAFL.

Damien is able to combine an intimate knowledge of the local football market and recent Premier Division coaching experience with first-hand knowledge of the standard of football required in both conferences of the NEAFL.”

Rod Carter brings decades of AFL experience, first as a player for Fitzroy and the Sydney Swans, then as a league administrator and more recently as a recognised player development manager and state level representative coach. In 2008, Rod was responsible for identifying Jarrod Witts, who after three seasons within the Sydney Uni and NSW RAMS programs went to Collingwood FC in the 2012 AFL Draft.

“Having coached state representative sides as well as coaching within the recently formed Sydney Swans Academy, Rod will offer SUANFC U18 Colts players the best coaching available and in as much assist the Club to provide the best possible environment from which to develop,” said Wilkinson.

“We’re focusing heavily on developing young players, new to the game or with recognised talent. Through a structured development and high performance program involving our U18 Colts, we aim to develop NSW footballers into the NEAFL and AFL in the near future. The inclusion of both Rod and Damien, to complement Roger Moten and Daniel Gilmore will add real weight to our aspirations to be recognised as a club that can develop and produce footballers capable at playing at the highest level.”

SUANFC welcomes Damien and Rod on board as we build toward our inaugural year in the NEAFL.
