Sydney University Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder James Goswell has finished 17th at Sunday’s Port Macquarie Ironman.

Goswell (B. Combined Commerce & Laws), who holds an EAP scholarship for the sport of triathlon and was also a joint USYD Business School undergrad scholarship holder up until end 2011, finished the race in a time of 9:24:02.

This placed Goswell 17th overall and an amazing 2nd in the 18-24 year age group.

Goswell’s placing is all the more amazing when you consider that his background is firmly in the sport of rowing (where he previously held an EAP scholarship)

As a rower, Goswell represented Australia for three consecutive years (2007-09) at the U23 World Championships in the Men’s Eight – finishing with a bronze medal in 2007.

He was also part of the victorious Sydney University crew in the 2010 and 2011 Australian Boat Race’s against rivals Melbourne University.

Having decided to row part time since 2010, Goswell has since turned his attention to long distance racing and his next major challenge will be the Hawaiian Ironman in October.
