The University of Sydney delivered another outstanding performance on the national stage at the 2026 UniSport 3x3Hustle Uni Nationals in Canberra, with the men’s Division 1 side crowned national champions and the women’s Division 1 team securing a silver medal after a hard-fought tournament campaign.

Hosted by the University of Canberra in partnership with 3×3 Hustle, the championship featured 47 teams across Division 1, Division 2 and the newly introduced wheelchair competition, the intensity was evident, with many close finishes and high-pressure moments a major feature of the tournament.

Sydney’s biggest moment came in the Division 1 against Deakin University, where the two sides produced one of the matches of the tournament.

The final played at a relentless pace, the championship decider showcased why 3×3 basketball is entertaining – physical defence and clutch shooting with many momentum swings right throughout.

USYD held its nerve late, executing under pressure to secure a thrilling 20-18 victory and claim the national title.

The title capped off a strong week for the Sydney men’s side, who continued to step up in the big moments throughout the tournament.

The success was also recognised individually, with Iggy Mitchell named Men’s Division 1 MVP after a standout tournament. Mitchell played a major role throughout the week, producing key baskets and important plays in crucial moments as USYD secured the national title.

Our women’s Div 1 side also produced an impressive campaign, advancing throughout the game. UniSC managed to find a late run to claim a narrow 14-12 win, with USYD finishing the tournament with the Division 1 silver medal after a strong week in Canberra.

USYD was also represented strongly in the Division 2 competition, with both additional teams producing competitive performances throughout the tournament.

The men’s Division 2 side progressed through to the quarter finals after a solid campaign across the pool and knockout matches, while the women’s Division 2 team narrowly missed the finals berth following several close contests during the tournament.

The performance across all four teams emphasises the depth within the Basketball program, with USYD competitive across both Division 1 and Division 2 against some of the strongest university programs in the country.
