SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Chris Friend has begun the 2014 surfing year in solid fashion, after he made the semi-final of the 2014 Chiko MP Classic held over the weekend at Coolangatta, Queensland.

The 2014 Chiko MP Classic saw an exciting mix of seasoned veterans and emerging talent compete in pulsing three foot surf at Duranbah, with 17 year old Michael Wright finishing with the title.

The event honours Australian surfing icon Michael Peterson, with 32 surfers fighting for the prestigious event title and the all-important Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 1-Star Qualifying Series points and prize-money.

After being knocked out in the semi-finals, Friend (who is studying a Bachelor of Commerce at The University of Sydney) will now turn his attention to this weekend’s Australian Open in Manly.
