The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames have continued their impressive start to the season with a victory over the Dandenong Rangers.

The Flames, who were ahead the entire game won 81 -78 against the home side. Sydney Uni were consistent throughout the game, finding scoring opportunities from a number of contributors.

Katie Ebzery was again a stand out for the Flames, finishing the game shooting 50 per cent from the field and 4 from 5 from beyond the arc, totalling 24 points and collecting 3 assists.

Import Mikaela Ruef, has made an easy transition into the league with a second strong performance this week, securing a double double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Despite a slow start from both teams, the Flames built a decent lead with a couple of minutes left in the first term, before consolidating this and stretching the lead to as many as 11 points mid-way through the second.

The Flames statistically dominated the game, winning the rebounding count 44 -40 and played a great team game demonstrated in the assist count which they also won 21 – 14. Leilani Mitchell showed she truly is a star play maker, collecting 8 of these assists. It was a clean game, with neither team collecting more than 10 turnovers; the Flames were just more efficient in scoring.

Despite a competitive final quarter which saw the home side fight back to within three, the Flames were able to ward off Dandenong and control the game.

For Dandenong Cappy Pondexter was the standout performer and best on court. She was extremely efficient, shooting at 47% from the field, 50% from 3 point range, was 9/9 from the foul line, with 10 rebounds and 4 assists, totalling 30 points in 36.51 minutes of play.

With two consecutive wins on the road, the Flames will now return for their first home game of the season against the Adelaide Lightening at 7pm on Saturday night at Brydens Stadium, Sydney University Sports & Aquatic Centre. The team is excited to be playing in front of their home crowd, so make sure you get down to support them as they aim for three in a row.
