With eight home games from their final 10 competition games in the 2010-11 Women’s National Basketball League season, seventh-placed Sydney University Flames still believe they are title contenders.
And that’s not just the opinion of the players and coaching staff, but Flames Operations Manager Trish Fallon, a former Opal and Flames captain.
“It’s the tightest competition in years,” Fallon says. “Any team in the top eight can win the competition.
“The Flames have had a tough run with injuries, but given a healthy roster for the back half of the season, they could still figure prominently in the finals.”

The home games begin at 1pm this Sunday when the Flames host Townsville at the Sydney University Sports and Fitness Centre. The Flames will also host

The two away games are
Canberra head the WNBL with 10 wins from 11 outings, followed by Bulleen (5-2), Dandenong (7-3), Bendigo (6-4), Logan (5-4), West Coast 4-5), the Flames (4-7), Townsville (3-6), Adelaide (2-6) and AIS (1-9).
The Flames’ full roster were introduced to the lunchtime gathering, including Deanne Butler, Jaimee Kennedy, Lauren Nicholson, Evan Afeaki, Katie Ebzery, Mikaela Dombkins, Sally Potocki, Natalie Porter, Amy Denson, Ashleight Karaitiana, Natalie Stafford and Tanya Smith.
Also on hand were coach Karen Dalton and assistant coach Peter Lonergan.
Corporate and Alumni Relations manager Rodney Tubbs hosted the luncheon, conducted a fundraising auction and interviewed a panel consisting of Amy Denson, Katie Ebzery and Natalie Porter, while, Blue & Gold Club supporter Adam Spencer interviewed a select panel of Ellyse Perry, Sally Shipard and Sarah Stewart.
