The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames are aiming to break a two-game losing streak when they take on the Alcohol Think Again West Coast Waves this Friday night at Brydens Stadium.

“We are really looking forward to the game this Friday night and we are desperate for a win,” said Flames forward and American import Kathleen Scheer.

“We’ve been practicing really hard and we are working a lot on our defence and also our rebounding at both ends of the court. Defence in particular wins games. Hopefully we can go out there on Friday night against the Waves and execute what we’ve been practicing and get the win. Everyone is practicing really well.”

Awaiting the Flames on Friday night is a West Coast Waves team anchored at the bottom of the WNBL ladder with a 1-17 win-loss record.

The two teams met in Round 6 in Alice Springs in early November, and it was the girls from Sydney Uni who ran out winners, 75-38.

On that night the Flames defensive pressure was first class, causing the Waves to offer up an incredible 15 steals.

Despite a troubled season for the Waves, Scheer says the team is well and truly aware of the talent possessed by Waves stars Antonia Edmondson and Melissa Marsh and the need to respect any opponents.

“We treat every game the same way and we will go into this week’s game with the same intensity and preparation as we would for a game against the top team in the league,” explained Scheer.

“At this level, in the WNBL, we need to be ready to play, no matter who it’s against.”

Tip-off for this Friday night’s Round 15 WNBL game against the Alcohol Think Again West Coast Waves is at 7.30pm pm at Brydens Stadium at the Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Centre.

All tickets can be purchased online by clicking here or at the door from 6.30pm onwards on Friday night.
