Off the back of a stunning 14 point defeat of Logan last weekend, the Southern Design Sydney Uni Flames are full of confidence as they head into Friday night’s clash against the Canberra Capitals at the Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Centre.

Despite last weekend’s comfortable win, Flames Coach Karen Dalton is still looking for a faster start following a string of poor beginnings to games.

“Once again we were behind at quarter time (down 21-16) on Saturday night,” said Dalton.

“We need to continue to work on our starts.”

Coming off two losses last week the Capitals will be keen to hit back on Friday night, particularly through guard Jess Bibby, who traditionally performs strongly against the Flames.

Bibby was particularly influential in her teams two previous encounters against Sydney Uni this season, both resulting in closes victories for the girls from the nation’s capital.

Flames captain Alicia Poto and Jaimee Kennedy will have the job off shackling the free scoring Bibby.

The Flames will also have to keep a close eye on Capitals forward Brigitte Ardossi who scored well and pulled down plenty of boards against Sydney Uni last month and Sam Norwood, who has hit a rich vein of form.

Flames bigs Ellie Manou, Ellyce Ironmonger and Tayla Roberts will have the job of containing their scoring and keeping them off the boards.

Sydney Uni will once again look to Katie Rae Ebzery (19 points last week) and April Sykes (15 points last week) to continue to provide scoring power for the Flames and new recruit Rohanee Cox, who continues to improve each game.

Alicia Poto has been in outstanding form, and she will be a vital cog in the Flames engine as they attempt to go back to back for the first time in season 2012/13.

Come out and support the Flames against the Canberra Capitals on Friday night at the Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Centre (SUSAC).

Tickets are on sale from 6pm on the night and tipoff is at 7pm.

Friday night’s game also represents a chance for Flames fans to support the Smith Family Toy & Book Appeal, which is an opportunity to help bring a smile to a disadvantaged child’s face this Christmas.

The Flames are asking their supporters to bring a gift along to place under the Christmas Tree on Friday night (gifts must be new for kids aged 0-12 years and not be wrapped).
