Star Southern Design Sydney Uni Flames forward Amy Denson has been named in the 2010/2011 Women’s National Basketball League All Star Five.

The announcement of the All Star team was made at Basketball Australia’s gala WNBL and NBL dinner in Melbourne last night, with the major awards from both of this country’s elite competitions presented.

Denson joins league MVP Liz Cambage, Bulleen guard Jenna O’Hea, Dandenong floor general Kathleen MacLeod and Canberra centre Marianna Tolo in the All Star team after a stellar debut WNBL season.

Oregon native, Denson, led the Flames in scoring at just over 18 points per game, snared seven rebounds per game and connected on an impressive 90 per cent of her attempts from the free throw line.

A versatile forward, Denson also led the team in minutes played and was adjudged WNBL Player of the Month for November after some outstanding performances.

Currently playing with SEABL power club Knox, Denson has signed with Sydney Uni for the 2011/2012 WNBL season and will return to the Harbour City in September to commence preparations with the Flames.

Flames coach Karen Dalton said the all-league selection was recognition for a consistent season by her star forward.

“Amy works hard, is a professional in everything she does and is one of the league’s most consistent players,” she said.

“It is great she has received this recognition and we are certainly excited to have her coming back for her second year in the league next season.”

Denson will return to NSW briefly tomorrow, where she will be a special guest at the junior grand finals of the Moss Vale Basketball Association, the local association which sponsored her during the 2010/2011 WNBL season.
