This Friday’s WNBL season opener against the rising stars of the AIS heralds the start of an exciting season for the new look Southern Design Sydney Uni Flames.

The Flames welcome back two of the clubs biggest stars in Belinda Snell and Alicia Poto as they look to start the year with an important home win.

With Snell and Poto back in Sydney blue to join returning stars Amy Denson, Katie Ebzery and Natalie Stafford, the Flames look set to play a high octane style of play.

Add to that the addition of sweet shooting Lauren King and improving young centre Ellyce Ironmonger and the Sydney-siders look to have plenty of depth across the board.

Eva Afeaki showed in the pre-season hit out with Canberra that she had benefitted from an offseason stint in the SEABL and her versatility will be key this weekend.

The Flames welcome the AIS, with the core of the talented young group recently back from a top four finish at the junior World Championships.

Led by hard working guard Rebecca Cole and athletic swing Sarah Blicavs, the AIS team is athletic, fast and skilled.

Up front Carley Mijovic is a multi-skilled scorer who will be looking to play a major role in her second WNBL season.

Winning at home is key to any play-off push and Coach Dalton will be keen for a solid defensive effort and a crucial “W” in this danger game.
