Sydney University will be involved in up to 11 gold medal games tomorrow after a stellar day of performances on day four of the Australian University Games, on a scorching hot day in Adelaide.

The following teams will be involved in gold medal play-off games on the fifth and final day of competition: badminton (women), football (women), handball (mixed), hockey (men and women), tennis (women), volleyball (women) and water polo (men and women).

Four teams will play-off for bronze medals tomorrow: basketball (men and women), tennis (men) and badminton (men); while a further four teams will hope to progress to gold medal matches after their semi finals: water polo (men and women), netball (women) and rugby 7s (men).  

In other news, the Sydney University athletics team experienced a golden day of track and field as they emphatically sealed men’s and women’s overall gold medals after a phenomenal day of action that included nine medals.

Anneliese Rubie (800m women’s gold), Christina Grun (women’s javelin gold), men’s 4 x 100m relay (gold), women’s 4 x 100m relay (gold), men’s 1600m medley relay (gold), women’s 1600m medley relay (gold), Janina Strauts (women’s pole vault silver), Jacqui Fry (women’s 110m hurdles silver), men’s 4 x 400m relay (silver), Marlee Barber (women’s polevault) and Esther Muller (women’s 200m bronze) all had had top three placings on the third and final day of athletics competition.

Sydney Uni women’s golf and men’s judo also took out team gold medals this week after dominating their respective competitions.

In swimming Sydney University finished the three day competition very strongly winning six medals – Michelle Troup (men’s 100m freestyle gold), Josh Beard (men’s 800m freestyle gold and 200m backstroke ), Brendan Micallef (men’s 50m breaststroke silver), men’s 4x50m free relay (silver) and men’s 4x50m medley relay (silver).
