Day 2 at the Eastern University Games has seen the USYD team build on the foundation set on Day 1. Some of the favourite teams have remained undefeated and our individual athletes have continued to impress.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams have continued their dominance and both teams remain undefeated. The women played one game against Macquarie and it was a battle from start to finish. The game had everything in it; from face paint, to technical fouls, this game saw fierce rivalry and neither team wanted to go down. The USYD crew showed great composure and determination in the second half which saw them come away with a 41-27 win. The men remain undefeated after a 58-42 win over ACPE, backed up by an 88-49 win over CU. Both teams find themselves in the quarter finals tomorrow, with the men facing off against our friends Cumbo, while the women’s quarter final opponents will be determined after the final pool games in the morning.

The netball women remain undefeated after a dominant 43-4 win over Cumbo. This win has secured the team a spot in the quarter finals tomorrow. The mixed team split games today which means that the final pool game is a must win in order to secure a quarter final spot.

The futsal women continue their dominance and are hot favourites heading into Day 3. The women won both their games today with a 10-5 win over ACU and a 7-2 win over MQU. Remaining undefeated has secured the team a spot in the quarterfinals with their opponents to be decided after the final pool games. The men’s futsal team split games today. Suffering a rough 2-7 loss against ACPE, the team turned things around to get a fantastic 18-3 win over UNDA.

The Ultimate team also continue their dominance in the competition. Day 2 saw the team beat Macquarie 15-1 and then back that performance up with a 14-5 win over UTS. With the team being undefeated, it means that they have booked their spot in the quarterfinals tomorrow.

Lawn bowls managed to get their first wins today which provides a great confidence boost for the teams. The USYD 2 team managed a 2-1 win over ANU 2 and the USYD 3 team managed to sneak past UOW 2-1. These two great performances are sure to lead to more great results on Day 3.

The touch teams had a jam packed day. Between the three teams, 7 games of touch were played, which saw five wins, one loss and one draw. The women rallied after yesterday’s disappointing start and posted three wins from three games. The game of the day was against Cumbo which saw USYD coming away with an extremely tight 2-1 victory. If the girls stay in this form on Day 3, they will definitely secure themselves a spot in the elimination rounds. The mixed team split games today, with a tough 2-14 loss to the stacked Newcastle team. Not too discouraged, the team fought hard in their last game of the day to come away with a 10-6 win over UWS. The men’s team started the day with a nail biting 6-6 draw against UWS. The men played an amazing team game and it was extremely exciting to watch. They followed this great performance to get the win against CSU. Day 3 games will be very important to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.

The volleyball team struggled with the 7:30am fixture against UTS which saw them go down 0-2. Once they were more awake later in the day, the team refocused and managed to beat Newcastle 2-0 which puts the team in a great position leading into Day 3. The team has two more pool games before heading into the elimination rounds.

Our individual athletes continued to shine on the golf course and on the tennis court. Golfer, Alex Livingston, is sitting second overall after another impressive day.  Clayton Kornhauser is sitting in 10th position overall, Tyson Goddard is in 20th position and James Roberts and Taylor Martin are in 22nd and 23rd position respectively. Day 3 will be a big day on the course for all five golfers.

Htay Aung and Thomas Berrigan have had almost perfect days on the tennis court. Both men have secured themselves spots in the round of sixteen. There are forty tennis players in the draw, so the round of sixteen is a major achievement. Morning results will determine who plays in the semifinals later in the day. SUSF is wishing both Htay and Tom luck for the round of sixteen matches. With Paul and Lawrence losing their games today, they will fight for positions 16-35 tomorrow.
