Sydney University came away with gold and silver after three days of intense competition, in temperatures below 10 degrees, at the recent Eastern University Games in Bathurst.

Three of the six teams sent away returned with medals, including the women’s tennis team, the men’s tennis team and the mixed ultimate frisbee team.

The women’s tennis team smashed UTS, 5-0 in the finals to secure the gold, while the men’s team earned silver after been beaten 3-2 by Macquarie University in the gold medal match.

The mixed ultimate frisbee team dominated throughout the early rounds of competition, but were defeated 11-5 by Newcastle in the finals.

Sydney University’s men’s basketball team finished 5th, the women’s touch football team finished 5th and the men’s touch football team finished 9th.

Overall, it was an extremely positive experience for the Sydney University teams and an excellent trial for the teams looking to compete again at the Australian University Games, to be held on the Gold Coast in September.

“I think everyone is really looking forward to AUGs. We are trying to send a team for every sport and we are almost there,” said Leonie Lum, Sydney University Sport’s Programs Manager.
