University of Sydney and EAP alumnus Ethan De Melo has been named in the 14-player Futsalroos squad set to represent Australia at the ASEAN Futsal Championship in Thailand.

The tournament will take place from April 6-12 and is one of the premier competitions in the region. Formerly known as the AFF Futsal Championship, the biennial event brings together the top national teams from across Southeast Asia. This will be Australia’s eighth appearance, with the Futsalroos having previously secured four silver medals.

Australia has been drawn into Group B, where they will face defending champions Indonesia, along with Malaysia and Brunei. All matches will be played at the Nonthaburi Stadium in Thailand, a venue holding a capacity of 10,000 people.

De Melo’s selection is a strong reflection of his continued development and performances, earning the opportunity to compete on the international stage against some of the region’s best talent.

The tournament will feature eight nations competing for the title and provides an important opportunity for Australia to build on the momentum from the AFC Futsal Asian Cup earlier this year. The squad includes a mix of experienced players and emerging talent, ensuring valuable continuity within the group.

As the Futsalroos prepare for a week-long tournament, De Melo will be one to watch as Australia looks to make an impact in Thailand.
