Brydens Sydney Uni Flames joint MVP award winner Katie-Rae Ebzery has capped off a stellar 2013/14 WNBL season after being selected in the 33-player Jayco Australian Opals squad.
Ebzery, who shared the Flames MVP award with 2008 Beijing silver medallist Rohanee Cox, was named in a very strong extended squad that will be cut down for September and October’s 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women in Turkey.
The 24 year old guard had a breakout 2013/14 WNBL season, playing in each of the Flames 24 games and top scoring with an average 15.9 points a game. That scoring average put in equal fifth position in the league.
Ebzery is looking forward to meeting up with her fellow Opals squad members for a training camp at the Basketball Australia National Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Canberra from March 23-28.
“I’m really excited about being selected to the camp in the lead up to a World Championships,” said Ebzery. “It’s always fun training and playing against the best of the best in our country. Hopefully I train well and look toward making the camps as we get closer to the World Championships.”
Flames Head Coach Karen Dalton was pleased to see Ebzery selected, saying “Katie has had a great season and she thoroughly deserves her selection in the Opals squad.”
The 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women will be played in Turkey from 27 September to 5 October.
