Sydney University Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Sam Douglas has capped off 2011 in style, finishing second at the Elite Energy Callala Bay Triathlon.

Douglas, who was victorious in the open division of the Noosa Triathlon in early November, raced side by side with his training partner and eventual Callala Bay Triathlon race winner Michael Murphy.

Murphy and Douglas came out of the swim together and managed to put just under a minute on the rest of the field on the bike. Murphy was able to make an early break on the 5km run and managed to hold off a determined Douglas, to take the win by just 34 seconds.

Douglas, who is studying a B. Education (Secondary: Human Movement and Health Education) at the University of Sydney, also recently competed at the 30th Anniversary Nepean Triathlon, where he finished fifth, and the Trishave Kurnell Race 1, where he manged third.

Douglas will spend the remainder of the 2011 season concentrating on his training and he can’t wait for 2012 to come around.

“2012 is already looking like a big one, with the remainder of the Kurnell Series, Huskisson, Nowra and Geelong Triathlons creeping up quickly,” said Douglas.
