Former Sydney University Athletics Club women’s president Larissa Stanley posted a double victory at the NSW Masters Championships in Sydney over the weekend.
Competing in the 35-39 age group, Stanley won both the 1500m and the 800m in very convincing fashion. Indeed in the 1500m she narrowly missed breaking her personal best (by only half a second) which was posted more than five years ago.
And she was also able to beat competitors in the 30-34 age group who were in the same race.
In the men’s 100m Piyush Kyumar won the 100m in the 30-34 age division, posting a NSW Masters record of 11.00 despite stumbling out of the blocks and recovering late to swoop to victory. Kumar almost took the sprint double when he finished 2nd in the men’s 200m.
In other events, SUAC athlete and SUSF staff member Andrew ‘Meso’ Heil picked up two silver medals on Saturday, finishing 2nd in the 1500m in a personal best time and backing up for a 2nd place finish in the 30-34 400m.
In the men’s 800m, Mark Heiss posted a personal best when he ran 2nd in the 30-34 division.
Masters athletes now look forward to the National Championships to be held in Melbourne over Easter.
