Sydney University’s AFL senior team player Tom Young, at the ripe ago of 16, has been named a Round 2 AFL Sydney NAB Rising Star nominee because of his unmistakable talent and integral role on the field.

In the team’s first win of the year against Wollongong at North Dalton Park, Young proved to be an unstoppable force. He was responsible for six goals and a direct assistance in two other goals.

Young posed a significant threat throughout the game, especially in the third quarter where the club scored seven goals, securing a merciless 50-point lead.

“[Young] is strong through the legs and makes good decision,” said Head Coach Roger Moten. “We’ll continue to work with Tom in the areas he needs to focus on, but we’re simply rapt to be able to assist a player of his talent in attempting to reach his goals with the support of the Club and the Magpies.”

Young has the height and physique to develop into a key position player. However his skill as a run and carry player makes him a likely half back flanker.  He offers a strong rebound from behind lines and the ability to effectively distribute to teammates.

Young transferred to Sydney University this year from Campbelltown where he primarily played in the under 18s.  He is scholarship listed by Collingwood FC.  Young is also a crucial member of the under 18 NSW ACT RAMS.
