Brydens Sydney Uni Flames remain in the three-way leaders of the league split despite going down to Dandenong Rangers 85-65 in a tough away game on Saturday, 28 November.

From a 12-3 start, the home side gave no inch for a Flames fightback, playing their full roster to perfection.

Coach Shannon Seebohm expected the opposition to come in hungry for the win.

“Possibly a bit of hangover from our win last week lingered around the team at training this week and then turned up in the game,” said Seebohm.

#10 Captain Katie Ebzery still managed 16 points after some first half foul trouble, while the left-handed WNBA import #30 Carolyn Swords again turned heads picking up 13 rebounds. Swords has put together some impressive numbers, averaging 14 points and six rebounds a game while playing only 20 minutes.

“Every game keeps me on my toes. I’m adjusting to the style of play and not being in foul trouble so I can be on court with my team,” said Swords.

Coming up against a Championship winning club (2011/12) and strong contenders in previous season playoffs was always going to be a challenge on the road. The loss shows just how tight the League is and the concentrated ladder is further evidence of this.

The Flames now prepare for back-to-back games, playing Adelaide Lightning at home on Friday 4 December, followed by a next day away against the UC Capitals on Saturday 5 December at Tuggeranong Southern Cross Stadium.

“We will get back to training this week and hopefully correct the things we didn’t do well and move on,” said Seebohm.
