Sydney Uni Hockey has entered the pointy end of the season, with several teams showcasing grit and determination in their finals campaigns.
The men’s 4th grade side capped off an impressive season with a grand final appearance, ultimately finishing runners-up after a high-scoring 4-6 contest. While not the fairytale ending they had hoped for, the team can be proud of the fight and consistency that carried them all the way to the decider.
On the women’s side, the 1st grade team produced one of the most dramatic victories of the finals series so far. After a tense 0-0 draw in their semi-final, the match went to a penalty shootout, where Sydney Uni held their nerve to claim a 4-2 win. They now move into this weekend’s preliminary final with momentum and belief.
Meanwhile, the Women’s 4th Grade team has also booked their spot in the grand final. Their semi-final finished in a 2-2 draw, but thanks to their higher ladder ranking across the season, they progressed through and will now compete for the title in two weeks.
It was heartbreak for the Women’s 2nd and 5th grade sides, who both exited at the semi-final stage despite strong campaigns and plenty of positive performances throughout the year.
As the finals continue, we still have two teams in the hunt for silverware. The club has every reason to be optimistic, also celebrating the resilience across all grades.
