A swashbuckling 84 from opener Greg Mail helped Sydney University secure a bonus point win over St George and the Sydney Grade Cricket limited-over lead in their match Sydney University No. Oval on Saturday.

Chasing 108 after St George had won the toss and batted, Mail went after the attack from the start, cracking 14 boundaries before being run out. He faced just 65 deliveries in the 71-minute knock and shared a 104-run opening partnership with skipper Will Hay (14).

Mail was eventually out with the score on 108, allowing Ian Moran to hit the winning run at the end of the 19th over – securing a bonus point for the Students in the fast run-chase.

Mail has now amassed 440 runs from five innings this year, including two centuries. He had earlier starred with the ball, taking 4-18 from nine overs as the St George innings petered out in 44.1 overs. Josh Toyer (2-26) and Michael Culkoff (2-18) also shared the spoils.

Sydney University, Blacktown and Gordon are unbeaten after three rounds of the limited overs competition, but bonus points have helped Sydney University to the competition lead on 21, with Blacktown (20), Gordon (18), Randwick-Petersham (15) and Penrith (13) making up the top six.

With wins in Second, Third and Fifth grades, the Students are now second on the Club Championship on 324 points, behind Bankstown (352). St George (307), Randwick-Petersham (303) and North Sydney (300) make up the top five.
