Sydney University will play Manly-Warringah in the final of the Sydney first grade limited overs competition after winning a high-scoring semi-final over Randwick-Petersham at Coogee Oval on Sunday.

After winning the toss and batting, Sydney University rattled up 9-288 off their 50 overs, thanks to big contributions from Ian Moran (85), Scott Henry (66), Greg Mail (64) and Mark Faraday (43).

Moran, batting at No.3,  cracked 10 boundaries and three sixes in his 84-ball stay at the crease. He has now scored 661 runs for the season at 47.2. Meanwhile, Mail took his season tally to 974 at an average of 69.

Moran lived up to his all-rounder status by capturing 3-54 as the Randy-Petes came within 13 of victory, finishing with 7-276 on the back of solid knocks from Damien Wall (77), Simon Katich (75) and Adam Semple (49 not out).

Manly-Warringah secured a home final at Manly Oval on Sunday after defeating Fairfield-Liverpool by 47 runs in the major semi-final of the limited over competition, played at Rosedale Oval.

The Students made it a productive weekend by regaining the lead in the two-day competition with a solid first innings win over Randwick-Petersham in their clash at Sydney University No.1 Oval which finished on Saturday.

Skipper Will Hay cracked an unbeaten 106 as the Students posted 2-254 in reply to Randwick-Petersham’s 253. Scott Henry (66) and Ian Moran (53) shared big partnerships with Hay, while Moran once again contributed with the ball, taking 3-35.

And with Second Grade earning first innings points over Randwick-Petersham, the Students are now fourth on the Club Championship ladder with two rounds of the competition proper to play.
