Sydney University’s A.W. Green Shield (Under 16s) will contest the quarter-finals of the Shield for the first time tomorrow after finishing second on the competition ladder.

Fairfield-Liverpool, Sydney University and St George each finished on 30 points – from five wins – in the seven-round, 60-over competition proper. However, Fairfield-Liverpool topped the ladder with a better run rate from Sydney University and St George.

Also contesting the quarter-finals will be Northern District, UNSW, Sutherland, Gordon and Blacktown.

Sydney University’s charge to a finals berth has been helped no end by all-rounder Jonte Pattison, who is averaging 78.2 with the bat. The young Central Coast right-hander opened the competition with 75 against Mosman and 76 not out against Campbelltown-Camden. He followed with 15 against Gordon, 8 not out against Bankstown, a duck against UNSW, 44 against Eastern Suburbs and 95 against Sutherland.

Pattison has also taken 10 wickets at 9.3 with his leg-spinners, including 4-19 in the win over Campbelltown-Camden.

He has been playing Second Grade and Poidevin-Gray Shield (Under 21) for Sydney University during the 2012-13 season and made his First Grade debut in a limited overs match against Northern District on December 22 when he finished with five not out as the Students made 8-218 off 50 overs in reply to Northern District’s 7-237.
