Sydney University Sports Scholarship holder Greg Clune has been selected in the Australian team for the Indo Pacific Championships to be held in New Zealand in October.
Clune’s selection followed his impressive efforts at the recent 2008 Australian Trampoline Sports Championships where he finished first in senior elite tumbling – his 11th consecutive national tumbling title – second in the senior elite double mini trampoline (DMT) and first in the 17+ trampoline Go Team. (DMT is a cross between the gymnastics trampette and the trampoline).
A human movement and health education student, Clune was also a member of the Australian team in 2007 when they competed at the World Championships in Quebec, Canada.
The 2008 Indo Pacific Championships in trampoline, tumbling, and DMT will be held in Rotorua.
The championships are held to provide gymnasts from non-European countries with an opportunity to compete in a top level international event in trampoline, tumbling, and DMT. Their European counterparts benefit from many more opportunities to compete in such events.
The bi-annual championships are is organised with a format similar to the World Age Group Competition (WAGC) with the athletes competing in various age groups. Previous Indo Pacific Championships have been hosted by Pretoria, South Africa, Kelowna, Canada, and Brisbane, Australia.
Participating countries include Argentina, Australia, Botswana, Brazil, Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, Namibia, New Zealand, Qatar, South Africa, and the United States.
