Sydney University Athletics Club (SUAC) distance runner Russell Dessaix-Chin took out the Melbourne Half Marathon on the weekend in a blistering personal best time of 65.32.

Chin, who was crowned earlier this year as the NSW Distance Athlete of the Year, beat home a field of more than 8000 athletes to take home the Melbourne title in favourable conditions.

Fellow SUAC athlete Brad Croker, who was making his debut at the distance in the same race, finished a very impressive third – just over a minute behind Chin.

Chin and Croker who last represented SUAC in impressive fashion at the Tan relays in Melbourne, will now their turn their attentions to debuts at the marathon distance, and both athletes look in very good shape to do so. Croker has eyes on potentially racing in Nagano, Japan in March, while Chin is undecided on where he will race his first marathon at this stage.
