Sydney Uni Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder and multi-class Sydney Uni Swim Club (SUSC) member Sarah Hilt is chasing her Paralympic dream as her home community prepares to support her once again.

Hilt, 26, lost her left forearm, right fingers and thumb and both legs to meningococcal disease in October 2004 and is making a bid for the Australian team for the London 2012 Paralympics after winning a bronze medal in the 2011 Para Pan Pacific Championships in Edmonton, Canada, last month.

Hilt is training twice a day with the SUSC at the Sydney University Sports & Aquatic Centre in between her university honours studies in marketing.

Originally from Theresa Park near Camden, her home community will gather at Camden Showground on Sunday, October 16 for the fourth annual Walk for Sarah to raise money for the Sarah Hilt Foundation.

The walk will run from 10am to noon at the Camden Showground in Argyle St, Camden with registration costing $20 for adults and $40 for families.

The first walk, held in 2008, raised $55,000 for Hilt’s prosthetic leg while walks since have attracted about 400 people to raise money for the foundation, which provides financial assistance to Sarah and other victims of meningococcal disease.
