Tim Ley kept Sydney University’s faint qualifying finals chances alive with a match-winning performance against Blacktown at Joe McAleer Oval at the weekend.

A final quarter blitz from Rohanee Cox helped Brydens Sydney Uni Flames to an 89-80 win over Dandenong Rangers in their pulsating Women’s National Basketball League minor semi-final at Dandenong Stadium on Saturday.

The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames have overcome one final hurdle to secure a finals berth in the WNBL play offs. In what seemed like a David and Goliath type feat over the weekend, the Flames took down minor premiers the Townsville Fire in a nail biter to win 82 – 80.

Sydney Uni star Sean Abbott was last week named the 2015 Young Cricketer of the Year at the Allan Border Medal awards held in Sydney. 

The talented, all round cricketer collected 42 per cent of the votes for the award, running away with the title well ahead of his next nearest NSW teammate in Gurinder Sandhu who recieved 15 per cent of the votes.

Sydney University Football Club’s Australian Sevens representatives Ed Jenkins and Greg Jeloudev still have Olympic Games aspirations despite Australia’s fifth-placed finish in the Las Vegas leg of the Sevens World Series.

SUAC athletes competed in Sydney and Perth over the weekend, producing strong results in both cities.

St George’s first innings result over Sydney University at University Oval on Saturday put the Students in a must-win situation in the last three competition rounds if they are to defend the First Grade Belvidere Cup.
