Sydney University men’s and women’s teams kept their unbeaten run alive in the National Water Polo League with wins over ACU Cronulla Sharks on Friday night and Hunter Hurricanes on Sunday afternoon.

With just one point separating the teams, the Lionesses defeated the Sharks 12-11 in the Round 3 match at Peter Montgomery Pool on Friday. Anni Espar Llaquet led the scoring with six goals, with Maud Megans (3), Indigo Ditterick (2) and Danielle Morrissey also finding the back of the net.

The success story continued as the Lionesses backed up at the Peter Montgomery Pool on Sunday to post a 20-2 result over Hunter Hurricanes.

Anni Espar Llaquet once again led the scoring with eight goals, while Maud Megans (4), Luci Marsh (3), Danielle Morrissey (3) and Madissyn Powells and Samantha Henderson also goaled.

Sydney University now head the women’s KAP7 Cup ladder on 20 points, with Queensland Thunder (16), ACU Cronulla Sharks (14) and Fremantle Marlins (12) making up the top four.

Loui Schuller and William Miller each scored four goals for the winners, with Tom McJannett and Josef Schular each posting doubles and Drew McJannett and Jake Cavano also goaling.

The weekend success continued as Sydney University really hit their straps on Sunday afternoon with a 25-7 result over Hunter Hurricanes at Peter Montgomery Pool.

Lucas Young led the scoring with four goals, while Goran Tomasevic, Toby Goldschmidt and Ryan Goldschmidt each scored trebles, and Tom McJannett, Loui Schuler and Rhys Howden each posted doubles. Josef Schuler and Keegan Wicken also found the back of the net.

It’s all tied at the top as Sydney University and UNSW Wests Magpies head the men’s ladder on 16 points, with UWA Torpedoes (14) and Fremantle Mariners (14) making up the top four.

Sydney University will travel to Brisbane for Rounds 5 and 6, with men’s and women’s matches against Victorian Phoenix at Fortitude Vallen Pool on Friday night and against FYFE Adelaide/Hobart Jets on Sunday afternoon.
