Sydney University Women’s Hockey Club’s First Grade side won a nail-biting shoot-out against Glebe to progress to the 2020 grand final of the Metropolitan League at Olympic Park next Sunday.
Having gone through the shortened nine-round season proper undefeated, Sydney University and UNSW were locked at 1-all when the final whistle sounded in their semi-final at Olympic Park yesterday.
They then won a shoot-out 5-3 to earn a grand final berth against Northern District Strikers at Olympic Park next Sunday. The Strikers had accounted for Gordon-North Sydney 2-1 in their semi-final.
The shoot-out capped a wonderful day for the University Hockey Club, who will contest five of the six ML grand finals.
Sydney University defeated Moorebank 1-nil in the ML2 semi-final; Manly 1-nil in the ML3 semi-final; Moorebank 1-nil in the ML4 semi-final; and Glebe 5-1 in the ML 5 semi-final.
The grand finals at Olympic Park this Sunday will begin at 9am with the ML6 decider between Sutherland at Ryde-Hunters Hill.
Sydney University teams will start the day on Pitch 2 at 10.45am in the ML5 grand final against St George, followed by the ML4 decider between the Students and Glebe starting at 12.30.
Meanwhile, on the Olympic pitch, Sydney University will meet UNSW in the ML3 decider starting at 10am, and Macquarie University in the ML2 grand final commencing at 11.45am.
Sydney University will contest the ML1 grand final against Northern District Strikers, starting a 1.30pm.
