While inclement weather affected many cricket matches around Sydney on Saturday, Sydney University Third Graders Matthew Moran and Tom Fullerton made the most of conditions at St Paul’s College Oval.

Batting just 250m away from Sydney University Oval, where no play took place in the First Grade fixture against Randwick-Petersham, Moran and Fullerton cut loose to post a 260+ run third-wicket partnership.

Batting at No.4, Moran cracked 142, while Fullerton was unbeaten on 124 when the Students declared at 5-313, allowing them four overs at Randwick-Petersham. (Balls faced, boundaries and partnerships were, unfortunately, not recorded.) The visitors were 0-6 at stumps on day one of the two-day fixture.

In contrast, Sydney University Seconds have a tough day ahead of them at Coogee Oval next Saturday.

Having been sent in to bat, the Students were all out for 129, thanks to Thomas McKenzie (3-13) and Jamie Hemphrey (2-31) making the most of the early conditions.

Randwick-Petersham openers Matthew Everett (46 not out) and Adam Docos (32 not out) then put on a 79-run partnership as the hosts went to stumps 0-79 off 26 overs.

Sydney University Fourths were 0-9 at stumps at Kensington Oval and will be chasing 204 for first innings points when play resumes next Saturday.

Sam Wood (3-47) and Lewis Ansell (2-15) helped the Students dismiss Randwick-Petersham for 203 off 75 overs, with Jordan Segal (51) and Thomas  Holland (38) the main contributors.

As with First Grade, not a ball was bowled in the Fifth Grade fixture against Randwick-Petersham at Camperdown Park or the Metropolitan Cup match between Sydney University and Gordon at Beauchamp Oval on Saturday.
