In Round 1 of the NSW Women’s National Premier League 1, Bankstown City hosted Sydney University at Jensen Park.

It took until the half hour mark for the reigning minor premiers, to get onto scoreboard through an individually impressive goal from Julia Vignes. From then on Sydney Uni dominated the match.

Shortly after Vignes goal, Cortnee Vine made it 2-0 from the spot, followed by a goal from Julie-Ann Russel to make the score 3-0 to the visitors heading into half-time.

Mackenzie Hawkesbury had Uni 4-0 up soon after half time, following up on a rebound and Nikki Flannery made it five mid-way through the second half.

In NSW NPL1 Reserve Grade, SUSFC were equally as successful defeating Bankstown 4-0.

The SUSFC women will look to continue their strong form in Round 2 when they head to Blacktown. Kick-off is at 3pm on Sunday 17th March.

In Round 1 of the NSW Men’s NPL3, despite getting out to a strong start, SUSFC were defeated by Gladesville-Ryde 3-2.

Sydney Uni dominated the game early and had the first real opportunity in the eighth minute of the match as Marcus Del Vecchio’s strike sailed agonizingly close over the cross bar. They kept pushing forward and just before the 15 minute mark James Tsokos’ effort got Uni on the board first.

In the 30th minute, Uni doubled their advantage through an impressive counter attack after winning the ball from a Gladesville corner. Yuya Kotaki countered with pace before passing to Worrall on the wing who then found Panayoti Gotsis unmarked in the middle of the 18-yard box allowing for an easy tap in to score Uni’s second goal.

Despite leading 2-0, Gladesville got one back with five minutes to go in the half. Coming out of half time, the momentum was firmly with the home side who score two second half goals to take the game from Sydney Uni 3-2.

SUSFC men take on Camden at Arlington Oval on Saturday 16th March at 7pm.
