Sydney University Soccer Football Club men’s teams featured in three grand finals in the past two weekends, with the Under 16s collecting a lone title.
The 16s defeated defeated St George City 2-nil at Valentine Sports Park on 16 September, with Oscar Derkatch and Lachlan Eyles providing the goals.
Sydney University’s Under 20 side also made it to the grand final but went down 2-nil to St George City at Valentine Sports Park on Sunday, while the Under 13s suffered a 3-nil loss to Camden Tigers at the same venue on 16 September.
St George City won the First Grade title in the NPL 3 NSW Men’s competition with a 2-nil win over SD Raiders, while Hawkesbury City collected the Under 18 title, winning a penalty shootout 5-4 after the teams had finished 2-all.
In the NPL 2 NSW Youth competition, Sydney University won the Under 16 crown, St George won the Under 15 title with a 3-nil win over Nepean, Bankstown took out the Under 14 title with a 2-1 win over St George City, and Camden Tigers claimed the Under 13 crown.
SUFC featured in the finals of six of the seven NPL Men’s 3 NSW and 2 competitions, with the men’s First Division side the only team to miss out on finals football after finishing seventh on the ladder on 42 points after 26 rounds of the competition proper.
Meanwhile, Macarthur Rams defeated Sydney University 4-3 in the 2018 grand final of the NPL NSW Women’s competition at Valentine Sports Park on 2 September.
Leena Khamis, Kylie Ledbrook, Kate Hensman and Georgia Yeoman-Dale scored for the winners, while Cortnee Vine scored two of Sydney University’s goals, with Nickoletta Flannery scoring the other.
The Students had some consolation on the day with the Under 17s defeating Manly United 3-2 to earn the 2018 title.
Sophie Hoban scored two of Sydney University’s goals, with Tulley McEvoy scoring the other, while Lily Schnitzler scored twice for Manly United.
Sydney University’s Reserve Grade made it through to the preliminary final where they lost 2-nil to Blacktown Spartans, while the Under 15s were knocked out with a 1-nil loss to NWS Koalas in the elimination final. The Under 14s were also knocked in the elimination final with a 1-nil loss to Emerging Jets.
