Following an impressive fourth-place finish in the opening round of the Aon Uni 7s series two weeks ago in Tasmania, the University of Sydney struggled to back it up in Canberra for round two.
Notching two wins across the two-day tournament, the team fell to hosts University of Canberra first up, 22-12, before going down to 2017 and Round 1 Champions, the University of Queensland, 36-10.
They came back with a dominant performance against Bond University, defeating the side, 21-10.
On day two, the Students fell to the University of New England, 27-5, before thumping the University of Melbourne, 31-0 for ninth spot.
With a handful of key players rested or limited to restricted minutes because of this weekend’s Jack Scott Cup grand final where Sydney University will face Warringah, the group floundered through the second round despite their gutsy effort.
The Students will now look towards round three in Brisbane to bounce back, hosted at the University of Queensland from 22-23 September.
